studio

Black Barns is a recording studio set in the heart of the Shropshire Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a stone's throw from the mid point of Offa's Dyke. Part of a six and a half acre smallholding, we are not far from the historic market town of Ludlow and Shrewsbury, the region's capital. Rail link 15 minutes away, Birmingham International Airport 1 and a quarter hours. The tiny local town of Clun and nearby Bishops Castle offer a wealth of pubs, food, independent shops and places to stay.

The studio has been upgraded recently, with a dedicated live room, isolation booth, control room, mezzanine edit / programming suite and living areas.

The control room runs Logic and Pro Tools through a TL Audio M4  24 track analogue valve desk. Main monitors - Tannoy. Nearfield - PMC and NS10s.

We have a range of outboard and backline, as well as a collection of vintage guitars, basses and synthesisers, and a wide range of mics.

If you would like to book time or access our other services, please enquire using the online contact form. We offer tracking, mixing and re-mixing pre-recorded projects, re-amping, audio editing and mastering, and a consultancy and listening service. We also have broadcast standard video shoot and edit facilities.

Please read our studio T&Cs before booking here.

We offer re-amping for guitars, bass or anything else you feel might need a bit of life-saving! We normally suggest recording with two contrasting mics - small and large diaphragm - so you have the choice of how to blend the signal at a later date. You can supply audio reference for what you are trying to achieve or we will provide you with a number of usable alternatives, sympathetic to your master.

(we will also ask you to specify file format for delivery)
